The Karnataka Anna Bhagya Scheme (ಅನ್ನಭಾಗ್ಯ ಯೋಜನೆ), launched in 2013, is a pioneering welfare program that focuses on eradicating hunger and malnutrition among the state’s population. The scheme provides highly subsidized food grains to eligible beneficiaries, primarily targeting families living below the poverty line (BPL) and marginalized sections of society.

Key Features of the Scheme:

Food Grain Distribution: Under the ಅನ್ನಭಾಗ್ಯ ಯೋಜನೆ, eligible beneficiaries are entitled to receive a specified quantity of food grains every month. The scheme provides rice, wheat, and other essential food grains at highly subsidized rates, ensuring affordable access to nutritious food.

Inclusion of Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) Households: The scheme also extends its benefits to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) households, which are considered the poorest of the poor. This inclusion ensures that the neediest sections of society receive adequate support and assistance.

No Cap on Household Size: One of the remarkable aspects of the scheme is that there is no cap on the household size. This means that large families, who often face the most challenges in meeting their food requirements, can avail themselves of the benefits without any restrictions.

Ration Card-Based Implementation: The distribution of food grains is carried out through the Public Distribution System (PDS), using the ration card as a crucial identification document. This helps in streamlining the process and ensures that the benefits reach the intended beneficiaries.
